TUESDAY 28TH JANUARY 2014 NEWS
Monday 27th January 2014 was a photo competition judging night.
Some of the members competition photos are displayed on the member’s photo’s page
23 members entered the competition and there was an overall total of 84 images
Welcome to our visitors who attended the meeting last night and we hope you found it interesting.
Thanks to Col and Annette who arranged the refreshments/supper for members last night.
Now that our first competition for the 2014 year is over, I can say that the exact matching up of the projected images and the printed names and scores sheets worked well.
As explained to members present at the meeting and also in the flood of emails I sent over the last 2 weeks, the correct or manually corrected filename coding of member’s entries, emailed to our competition Coordinators, allowed this smooth running to happen last night.
With practice, we should be able to get the naming of entry files correct all (most) of the time.
If the filenames, dimensions or physical file size of images received are incorrect, then there is a lot of work involved for anyone receiving the images.
Even if they appear correct, when looking at 84 image filenames mixed in a single list, I initially missed seeing some simple things like the Grade letter being missing.
The system just won’t work properly if a single letter or dash is missing in the coding at the start of the entry filename. If every entry was 100%, then after the entries are downloaded to a computer folder, the whole processing job would take about 5 minutes to complete as it’s mostly automatic.
(but only if all the entries are correct)
So once again, the coding must look like this, with capitals in the right places please, but use your own ID number, grade and photo name:

I set up the new email address, bpgi.images@gmail.com just recently, mainly to receive competition entries and talk to members by email about problems they may have with creating and sending their entries.
So far, since 9th January, this new email box has received 198 emails and sent 170 emails sorting out the new competition emailing system.
Maybe for February, 120 entries, with only 120 emails in and 120 confirmation emails sent out.
